J. Serra Ramos

J. Serra Ramos, Lda was founded in 1989. Its main activity was the commercialisation of forest products and to support the paper pulp industry in the resolution of problems asociated with forest plantations.

In 1992, J. Serra Ramos, Lda. expanded and created technical teams capable of providing all kinds of services to the forestry and farming sectors. For this it invested in the acquisition of GPS and GIS technology, training technicians in the United States so that they would be skilled in every type of map-making.

Since 1993 it has been a member of ANEFA - National Association of Forestry, Agricultural and Environmental Enterprises.
In 1994, in partnership with the French group, PLANFOR, it built a forest nursery that later became an ornamental plant nursery. This was in the village of Maiorca, about 15 km from Figueira da Foz.

In 1995, the company quit the farming sector and began providing services of construction, maintenance and management of green spaces. It trained its technicians in this area, and in the installation of irrigation systems. In the same year the company obtained its Construction Licence, 2nd Category, Subcategories 9 and 10, Class 1, with number 23416-EOP.

In 1996 the company was certified by Rain Bird to install and design this brand of irrigation systems.

The next year, J. Serra Ramos, Lda., in a drive to keep improving the quality of its services, decided to send its technicians to England for training in the STRI (Sports Turf Research Institute), in the area of golf course construction and maintenance. In that year, too, the firm obtained “Accreditation as Forestry Contractor to undertake (re)forestation, maintenance and improvement work”, issued by the ANEFA Deontological Committee. Still in 1997, the firm set up a partnership with the Spanish group AZIMUT S.A. to expand the range of services in the area of cartography, cadastre, aerial photography and the preparation of orthophotomaps.

In 2001 the company was restructured to give it the organisation it has today, with a forestry division, landscaping and green spaces division and special projects division. The special projects division was set up to handle technologically innovative projects, environmental projects and projects which, although they may be related to the other two sectors, nevertheless require special treatment.

In the middle of 2006, the company embarked on the certification process with the implementation of an Integrated Management System for Quality and Environment in fulfilment of the requirements of NP EN ISO Standard 9001:2000 (Quality Management System) and NP EN ISO Standard 14001:2004 (Environmental Management System).

Its present sphere of operations covers the entire country, providing services in the public and private sectors alike.
